Another Mysterious Statement

I still don't know what it all means, but I love trying to figure it out.

Keeping Things Whole
Mark Strand

In a field
I am the absence
of field.
This is
always the case.
Wherever I am
I am what is missing.

When I walk
I part the air
and always
the air moves in
to fill the spaces
where my body’s been.

We all have reasons
for moving.
I move
to keep things whole.

  1. Absolutely love this! What else should I read of his, I'm not familiar with his work.

  2. I haven't read much of his work, but here's a good place to start: http://www.poetryfoundation.org/archive/poet.html?id=6621 Don't bother with the audio poems, though - I was not impressed. "The Dreadful Has Already Happened” is pretty good and weird, "Courtship" is not for the faint of heart, and "My Life" is good, too.
